IMSAR
IMSAR – Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy
The Solid Mechanics Institute of the Romanian Academy (IMSAR) is an advanced fundamental and applied research organization in the field of solid mechanics. IMSAR has its origins in the Traian Vuia Institute of Applied Mechanics established in 1949 under the auspices of the Romanian Academy. In 1965, the Solid Mechanics Center operated as an independent research institute. Between 1977 and 1989, the Center was a Department of the Institute of Physics and Technology of Materials, belonging to the former National Committee for Nuclear Energy. In 1990, this research department became the current Solid Mechanics Institute of the Romanian Academy. Since 1949, fundamental and interdisciplinary research undertaken independently or in partnership with other Romanian and international universities and research institutes has been and continues to be at the center of the Institute’s activity.
