From its establishment (1977) until now, the institute has continuously evolved, transforming itself from a research institute dedicated to the design of facilities and the development of technologies for the treatment of wastewater from the chemical and petrochemical industry (ICPEAR – former name) into a national research and development institute with a global approach to all environmental aspects in the field of industrial ecology, recognized at national level and with an increasingly active presence in international partnerships.
