Follow-up: “Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Future”

Innovation in technology is the main driver of the transformation of our society, providing us with the necessary tools to address global challenges related to the environment and sustainability. In a time marked by irreversible changes and increasingly limited natural resources, advancements in technology allow us to explore innovative solutions to integrate clean energy into our daily lives. This transition is no longer just an ideal but an urgent necessity, and by adopting green technologies, we can build a future in which clean energy becomes the norm rather than the exception. In doing so, we not only protect our planet but also improve our quality of life, creating a sustainable environment for future generations.

Măgurele Science Park organized the B2C(#Business2Community) event “Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Future” on April 4, 2025, at BT Stup, Bucharest. This event served as a meeting point for ideas, innovation, and action to create a more sustainable future for all. Our goal was to inspire and inform participants about the importance of adopting smart technologies for a greener and more sustainable future, providing opportunities for discussions, collaborations, and innovation.

The main objective was to bring together experts, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and representatives of authorities to explore innovative technological solutions that promote the acceleration of the transition to sustainable energy.

The event was opened by Mădălin Ioniță, Executive Director of the Măgurele Science Park Association, who reiterated that “through the activities carried out within the Măgurele Science Park Association – MSP, we bring together relevant players from the R&D and innovation ecosystem, so that the experience, knowledge, and creative ideas of researchers meet the development and innovation capacity of entrepreneurs, ensuring that the resulting solutions address the needs for technological development, economic competitiveness, the identification of new markets, and new international partnerships. The innovative solutions of our partners from the MSP community provide the guarantee and potential for sustainable developments for a sustainable future.”

This was followed by an interactive session led by Raluca Buțurcă, PhD – Director & Founding Partner, 10ability.

This exercise aimed to help participants understand the impact of energy consumption on the environment, raise awareness of the importance of reducing CO2 emissions, and calculate the carbon footprint associated with the electricity consumption of an individual or household, using data provided by energy suppliers and emission standards for different energy sources.

The final part of the event was dedicated to the panel discussion “Energy Transition – Trends and Challenges in the Green Energy Sector” where moderator Roxana Lupașcu, Innovation and Business Development Expert at the Măgurele Science Park Association, challenged her panelist partners on several important topics.

Panel participants included:

Laurențiu Brumaru – Head of Delivery Factory, PPC Romania

Ciprian Stănescu – President, Social Innovation Solutions

Ștefan Tudorie – Commercial Manager, Genesis Biopartner

Vicențiu Ciobanu – CEO, Prime Batteries

Here are some conclusions from the panelists:

• The green transition must be integrated and balanced. All speakers emphasized that it is not enough to increase the production capacity of green energy. We also need solutions for storage, digitalization, consumption management, and education.

• Education is the invisible infrastructure of the transition. Whether it involves consumers, companies, or authorities, energy education is seen as a key element. Without a change in mindset, technology remains inefficient.

• Local and intersectoral collaboration is essential. From partnerships with universities to cooperation with local authorities, innovation happens more easily when there is openness and cooperation.

• SMEs and the private sector can be the engine of change. Although sometimes they perceive the transition as a burden, companies are those that can innovate quickly and generate concrete impact, if supported by policies and funding.

• Romania has a window of opportunity. The fact that we do not have a rigid energy system, combined with a large potential in renewables, can transform Romania into a relevant regional player – if we invest wisely and act quickly.

We thank all participants for their presence and valuable discussions, concluding that “Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Future” was a welcome event for stimulating critical thinking and productive discussions, encouraging a holistic approach to the energy transition and thus contributing to creating a more sustainable future for all. We promise to return soon with more results from the research, development, and innovation activities of our partners from the MSP community.
