Interactive lesson about the future: students from Central School National College discover sustainability alongside MSP

Măgurele Science Park (MSP) continues to build bridges between education and innovation through interactive activities dedicated to school students. Through such initiatives, MSP aims to bring young people closer to technology, develop their critical thinking, and inspire them to become more aware of their impact on the environment.

According to statistics provided by the European Commission and Eurostat, only around 38% of municipal waste in the EU is recycled, and each European generates, on average, over 500 kg of waste per year.

It is essential to familiarize students with the importance of sustainability from an early stage, and the Green Week program represents an ideal opportunity to engage with them through dynamic and creative activities, helping them retain valuable knowledge that they can apply in their daily lives.

Recently, the MSP team visited Școala Centrală din București, where 10th-grade highschool students took part in a series of engaging activities centered around sustainability. Their enthusiasm and curiosity turned the meeting into a truly memorable educational experience.

Introduction to technology and sustainability

The first part of the presentation was delivered by Florentina Buică, who spoke to highschool students about the role of technology in everyday life and how it can contribute to a more sustainable future.

She presented MSP’s main educational projects and emphasized the importance of youth involvement in such initiatives. To make the session more interactive, she launched a short quiz using the Mentimeter app, allowing students to assess their own habits and attitudes toward sustainability. The results sparked meaningful discussions and highlighted students’ willingness to adopt more responsible behaviors.

3D modeling and printing: from idea to object

Next, Laurențiu Dinu brought technology closer to the highschool students through a hands-on 3D printing demonstration. Using a 3D printer set up directly in the school’s amphitheater, he modeled and printed a small object together with the students.

Participants had the opportunity to explore the Tinkercad platform and learn how to create complex shapes starting from simple ideas. A practical example was the creation of a mini beehive, a project that combined technology with the theme of sustainability.

Students also learned how artificial intelligence tools can generate high-quality content when guided by well-structured prompts, as well as how AI can support the creation of visual references and concepts for 3D modeling and printing projects.

Creative recycling and environmental responsibility

The final part of the session was led by MSP guest Alina Ohanisian, from ALTRNTV. She introduced highschool students to innovative ways of recycling glass, plastic, and cardboard, showcasing how these materials can be transformed into high-quality products.

The presentation also included a practical activity where students followed the journey of a plastic bottle, gaining a better understanding of the importance of proper waste collection and recycling. This exercise offered a concrete perspective on how individual actions can impact the environment.

Looking to the future with optimism

The MSP team’s visit to Central School National College once again demonstrated the importance of applied education that combines technology with environmental responsibility. Through such initiatives, students not only learn new concepts but are also encouraged to become active contributors to building a sustainable future. They are warmly invited to take part in future educational events organized by MSP.
