First online 3D technology introduction session with the contest participants

This year, MSP held the first online session on October 10, via Zoom, with students participating in the 3D modeling and printing contest.

What did the students discover?

To ensure that the information is accessible to as many school students as possible, we allowed all registered teams to join, in addition to the first 10, who were selected chronologically. We are delighted by the great interest shown by school students in exploring new digital territories and we thank the teaching staff for their dedication in our mission to connect children with STEM fields and new technology.

The pupils received an introduction to what a smart lab entails. Laurențiu, our colleague and the main facilitator of this activity, familiarized the pupils  with the 3D technology available in our lab and with the basic components of a 3D printer.

What curiosities did the school students have?

As always, pupils want to learn as much and as quickly as possible, but we addressed the questions one by one, gradually clarifying all doubts that may arise during the contest.

Many questions revolved around the financial aspects of a 3D printer—how much it costs, how it is maintained, and what other elements are needed for it to function.

It is worth noting for those curious and eager to explore the magic of 3D that, at the end of the MSP competition, with the support of the sponsor Formwerk, present since the very first edition of this contest, a 3D printer will be awarded to each of the top three schools on the podium. Thus, participants will have the chance to win a 3D printer for their school, and additionally, as winners, they will benefit from a 3D workshop provided by Code School Clubs, whom we thank for supporting us again this year. During the workshop, students will learn to model and 3D print a 𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫!

MSP Contest Stages

We still have 2 stages before the participants will be ready to finalize the last touches of their projects. Until then, it is important for them to carefully choose their subject and topic, as a complex project is the one that receives the most recognition from the judges.

During the week of October 20–24, we will meet with theparticipants for online sessions on Discord, tailored to each team individually. Then, in the week of November 3–14, we will meet the students at our headquarters for the prototyping stage of their project elements.

Afterward, the MSP team will 3D print the students’ projects by December 8, and on December 9, the ceremony will take place, during which the presentations, judging, and awarding of the best works will be held.

We eagerly look forward to see the projects students will prepare this year, and we thank the coordinating teachers for their dedication and interest in our mission to bring 3D technology closer to young learners!
