At the invitation of Professor and Researcher Eros Patroi Alexandru, MSP participated in the Annual Meeting of the Members of the “Alexandru Proca” Center, held on June 18, 2026. The event brought together students passionate about scientific research, teachers, mentors, and researchers, providing a platform for exchanging ideas, presenting research projects, and strengthening a community built on excellence and innovation.
An event dedicated to the young minds shaping the future
The annual meeting was much more than a series of project presentations. From networking sessions involving students, parents, and mentors to the formal presentation of research projects, the entire event was centered around a common goal: supporting young people who choose to transform their curiosity into scientific discovery.
Participants had the opportunity to present their work in an open and constructive environment, receive valuable feedback from experienced researchers, and establish new collaborations. Many of the students, from both middle and high school, are already winners of national and international competitions, proving that passion and perseverance can lead to outstanding achievements from an early age.
Scientific research is the foundation of technological progress and societal development. Without investment in education, innovation, and the support of talented young people, meaningful progress cannot be achieved. Initiatives such as the Alexandru Proca Center therefore play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of researchers.
Within the Center, specialists from the National Institute for Research and Development in Electrical Engineering ICPE-CA Bucharest provide mentorship, scientific guidance, and evaluation for students taking their first steps in research.



Alexandru Proca – A name that inspires excellence
The Center is named after Alexandru Proca, one of the most influential theoretical physicists of the twentieth century. A Romanian-born physicist who later became a French citizen and a posthumous member of the Romanian Academy, Proca graduated from the Faculty of Sciences at the Sorbonne University and conducted research at the Radium Institute, collaborating with renowned scientists such as Paul Langevin, Marie Curie, and Jean Perrin.
His groundbreaking contributions to elementary particle physics, quantum mechanics, and relativistic physics continue to be recognized worldwide. With the approval of his family, the founders of the Center chose to bear his name as a symbol of scientific excellence and dedication to research.
Projects that demonstrate the future begins today
The projects presented during the meeting stood out through both their scientific complexity and their practical applicability.
One of the most appreciated projects introduced an intelligent system designed to detect people in danger of drowning in seas and oceans. Using a drone equipped with sensors and an artificial intelligence model, the system can identify movement patterns associated with drowning and immediately alert lifeguards. It is capable of segmenting the water surface, detecting sharks, autonomously coordinating the drone, and recognizing various drowning scenarios, including instinctive drowning responses, significantly reducing emergency response times and potentially saving lives.
Another remarkable project, entitled MOF-5, focused on developing an innovative material capable of selectively capturing specific contaminants from polluted water, offering a promising solution for water purification and environmental protection.
The medical field was also represented through a project dedicated to the treatment of first-degree burns. Students developed an integrated system, and the promising results obtained enabled the initiation of laboratory testing on cell cultures in collaboration with a hospital. The system uses electrodes positioned around the wound to stimulate tissue regeneration and support the healing process.
The creativity of middle school students was equally impressive. Their projects included innovative concepts for generating energy through modifications to a Tesla coil, solutions aimed at reducing vehicle pollution, and optimizing the performance of a laser powered solely by an external battery.



Investing in young people means investing in the future
The Annual Meeting of the Alexandru Proca Center once again demonstrated that Romania is home to exceptionally talented young people capable of developing innovative solutions to today’s societal challenges. Beyond the impressive research outcomes, the event highlighted the importance of mentorship, collaboration between academia and students, and sustained support for scientific research from an early age.
We congratulate all participating students for their passion, dedication, and remarkable achievements, as well as the teachers, mentors, and researchers who guide and inspire them throughout this journey. Initiatives such as this reaffirm that investing in education and scientific research is one of the most valuable investments a society can make for its future.
