Măgurele Science Park continues to support educational initiatives that foster research, creativity, and academic excellence among students. During the National Geography Scientific Communications Session for High School Students, organized by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research, the MSP team contributed to the presentation of projects developed by students from “Horia Hulubei” Theoretical High School in Măgurele by creating custom 3D-printed models. The outstanding results achieved confirmed the value of collaboration between education and technology.
The National Geography Scientific Communications Session, held in Târgu Mureș from July 16–19, brought together high school students from across Romania to present research projects in the fields of physical geography, human geography, and environmental geography.
“Horia Hulubei” Theoretical High School was represented by Sonia Alexandru and Maia Facus, under the guidance of geography teacher Cătălin Popa. The two students presented research projects focused on topics of local relevance: “Seismic Vulnerability of Buildings in Măgurele” and “Strategies for Monitoring and Optimizing Air Quality in an Emerging Technology Hub: The Case of Măgurele.”
Supporting high student projects with 3D technology
To enhance the students’ presentations, the Măgurele Science Park team designed and produced custom 3D-printed models tailored to the themes of their projects. These interactive visual aids helped illustrate the research findings more effectively and showcased the practical applications of modern technologies in education.
The results highlighted the quality of the students’ work. Maia Facus received the Special Prize of the competition, following an evaluation based equally on the written research paper (50%) and the oral presentation (50%). The projects were assessed by a national jury composed of geography inspectors and teachers from across the country.
During the oral presentations, the two students successfully highlighted the heritage and identity of the city of Măgurele through their research projects, complemented by the 3D models created by MSP depicting iconic local landmarks. This combination of scientific research, innovative technology, and the promotion of local heritage resulted in a presentation that was highly appreciated by the jury.
