In February 1977, the Center for Earth Physics (CFP) was created by merging the Department of Seismology within the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of Romania with the Geodynamics laboratory within the Romanian Academy.
Following Decision no. 48/12.02.1994 – regarding the organization of research activity in the field of earth physics, CFP was transformed into the National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP), and by the Establishment Decision no. 1313/25.11.1996, it became the National Research-Development Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP).
